Earth Quake Preparedness
If you live in an earthquake prone locale, Earth Quake Preparedness is essential
Earthquakes strike with less warning than any other type of natural disaster. On a seemingly normal ground, the Earth can begin quaking beneath your feet. Buildings will sway, and some will crumble. There is nothing you can do to prevent an earthquake; you can only ensure that you maintain a high level of Earth Quake Preparedness so that you can be ready for consequences should one occur. When the shaking begins the best thing to do is drop, cover, and hold on. You should move no more than a few steps to a safe place. Stay indoors until the shaking stops and you are sure that it is safe to exit, and try to avoid windows. Before an earthquake begins it is important that your home is equipped with a disaster preparedness kit. A well planned disaster kit should include the following: A first aid kit and essential medications, canned food and can opener, at least three gallons of water per person, protective clothing, bedding, or sleeping bags, battery-powered radio, flashlight, and extra batteries, special items for infant, elderly, or disabled family members, and written instructions on how to turn off electricity, gas, and water if authorities advise you to do so. That is quite a lot of shopping. Fortunately, the American Red cross, the world's leading disaster relief agency, has put their considerable knowledge to use by developing a series of comprehensive disaster preparedness kits for the home, car, and workplace. These kits are designed to contain the critical supplies needed in times of emergency. The proceeds from the sale of such kits go to support the work of the Red Cross.
